TAJINEBANANE MANIFESTO
BREASTFEEDING ANYWHERE. ANYTIME
More than a slogan, it's a right: the right for mothers to have complete freedom over their bodies, both at home and in public spaces.
Blurred, fantasized, commodified in advertisements, our bodies are often a subject on which society feels entitled to comment, even when they are simply nourishing our children. But what is not often said, what is less seen, is what can still happen in the world when a woman becomes a mother and chooses to breastfeed (in all its forms: exclusive, mixed, or pumping):
She may face a lack of support, precarity, and loneliness;
She may experience discrimination at work, from the moment of hiring, when announcing her pregnancy, or upon returning from maternity leave; She may be struck by the violence of words that offend, by the judgmental looks, and sometimes by gestures that wound; In the street, on public transport, at the office, even within her own family... She may see her rights rendered invisible and debated by everyone.
As if breastfeeding were a choice to be made alone and to be whispered about. As if it didn’t deserve attention, preparation, nurturing, and support. It disturbs as much as it makes ink and tears flow, so for the well-being of all and to achieve "living together," it is high time we supported and defended it.
Protecting breastfeeding is not about criticizing bottles or condemning those who do not wish to breastfeed. On the contrary. Protecting breastfeeding is about protecting the choice.
Protecting the right of women to do with their bodies as they wish. Protecting women at all stages of their lives, whether they are going through motherhood or not.
From the government to health professionals, employers, individuals, and co-parents, supporting breastfeeding is everyone’s responsibility in order to banish the systematic sexualization of the female body, normalize, and protect nature within it.
Every day of the year, Tajinebanane is committed to informing, protecting, and helping all women, especially those who choose breastfeeding, as long as there is a need to do so.
Signing this manifesto means acknowledging that breastfeeding everywhere, all the time, is much more than a slogan. It is a right, and it deserves to be defended.
